Frequently Asked Questions

What will happen in the first session?

It is normal to feel nervous when attending for a first session. It can be difficult to talk about feelings that you may have been keeping private for a long time. We will talk about how counselling may help and also answer any questions you may have. We will always work at your own pace and to the depth with which you feel comfortable.

Will our sessions be confidential?

Everything you bring will be treated as confidential. However, as we will discuss in our first session together , there are a few limits to this. Firstly I attend supervision (as a professional requirement) and so your issues may be discussed , anonymously, at these meetings with my supervisor. Secondly, I reserve the right to break confidentiality if I believe that you or another person are at a serious risk of harm, or in certain legal circumstances. Where possible, I would endeavour to discuss this with you first .

How many sessions will I need?

In our first meeting together we can discuss the number of sessions you may wish to have. This may be short term, six weeks for example, or for a longer period of time. During our work together we can review this so that you work to the level with which you feel comfortable.

What if I need to cancel?

Please give at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel a session. The full fee is due for sessions missed without notice.

Do you work with children?

I work with clients aged 18 and above.

Please contact me to discuss any further questions.
